Last year at this time I wrote about the practice of winter sowing -- that is planting seeds in containers and placing them outside to overwinter. See Sow seeds of Joy, but sow them in winter. View this step-by-step guide to winter sowing on getbusygardening.com. I love the suggested seed list provided s not all seeds are suited to this sowing method. Gardeners in my part of the province have been busy digging. Digging snow, that is. Check your stash of seeds and find some containers, plant and wait for the magic, come spring!
