Around the world in 80 gardens

3/5/2013

This week, inspiration comes from a luxurious BBC garden series, 'Around the World in 80 Gardens' that is now showing on TVO.
PictureMonty Don
British gardener and broadcaster, Monty Don, is your congenial guide to 80 of the world's most spectacular – and often unexpected – gardens.  Don challenges himself – and us – to think about what a garden really is.

"If I have learned only one thing from my travels around the world it is that no garden is an island.  Context is everything," says Don.

"Each garden is placed in context, horticultural preconceptions are abandoned and Monty is constantly surprised by the unexpected locations where gardens thrive," (TVO, 2013).

First aired in 2008, this 10-part series is in no way dated.  In fact, Don's examination of the growing role of  native plants in the sustainability of several featured gardens echoes the thinking of many gardeners today.

Every continent is represented is this tour of public and private gardens in ten regions of the world.  See a list of gardens and notes.

You can find past episodes online.  But be warned, the archive time is limited.
